ViewModel in CS:GO – What is it and how to change it?

When you first launch CS:GO on a new PC or for the first time ever, the game features default settings that all players experience the same. However, not everyone likes these settings the same which is why the game allows you to customize almost every aspect of CSGO. The ViewModel is one of the most important features that you can customize to your liking.

What Is ViewModel in CSGO?

Counter-Strike Global Offensive is an FPS game that only allows you to view the game in first-person mode. Players get the move and view the CSGO world by moving their camera up and down the screen – or the Y-axis, left and right side – or the X-axis, and front and back – or the Z-axis. The View Model or FOV (Field of View) that you have set up can affect your gaming experience. However, there are a few commands that you can use to customize your ViewModel settings and make everything perfect for you.

You can choose to practice every time you change the viewmodel in various maps that you can download from the Steam workshop specifically designed for this. It’s a great option because it provides the perfect way to get the hang of the new settings before you start a real match.

How To Change ViewModel in CS GO?

It’s important to know that there are no universal best ViewModel settings out there. This should always be left for each player to customize for themselves, making it perfect in each individual case. There are two things you can change with these commands, including your shooting arm and your hands.

List of Counter-Strike Global Offensive ViewModel Settings Commands

  • cl_righthand – this is one of the most basic CSGO ViewModel commands. It moves your weapon in the left and right hand. Type in cl_righthand 0 for the left hand, and 1 for the right hand.
  • viewmodel_fov [NUMBER] – it adjusts your Field of View to the number your type in. The default FOV for all players is 60, and you can go as high as 68.
  • viewmodel_offset_x [NUMBER] – this command moves your weapon arm either left or right on the screen, depending on the value that you input. The maximum is 2.5 and the minimum is -2.5.
  • viewmodel_offset_z [NUMBER]- this command moves your weapon hand further or away from you on the screen. The max value is 2 and the minimum is -2. Typing in 2 will set it furthest away from you and -2 will place it as close as it can.
  • viewmodel_offset_y [NUMBER] – this command moves your weapon hand across the Y-axis, or up and down the screen. Setting it the max amount (2) will go as high up the screen as it can. Setting to the minimum (-2) will go as close to the bottom as possible.
  • viewmodel_presetpos – this allows you to save a preset of your X/Y/X axis configuration. Once you save it, type in this command and any value between 1/2/3 and it will automatically set it up.
  • cl_bobamt_lat – this is a simple command that adjusts how much your weapon moves from side to side while you are running in Counter-Strike.
  • cl_bob_lower_amp [NUMBER] – adjust how much you want your gun barrel to move towards you when you are running on the map.
  • cl_bobamt_vert [NUMBER] – set how much you want both your ViewModel and your gun barrel to move towards you when running.

How To Use ViewModel FOV Commands in CS:GO?

Implementing the contents of the list you see above is simple and straightforward. After all, they are commands which means that we need the command console to put them to use. Having said that, simply make sure that your Developer Console is enabled in the Counter-Strike Global Offensive settings menu and open it by clicking on the “`” button on your keyboard. Then, paste the contents into the console.

CSGO ViewModel Settings Used By Pros
