SteamLVLUP Review

SteamLVLUP does one job: it sells you Steam trading card sets so you can craft badges and push your Steam profile level up. That is worth stating plainly, because it sits in a directory full of skin marketplaces and it is not one. Nothing here turns items into money. It turns items and money into profile levels.

Whether that is worth paying for depends entirely on what you want a Steam level for - showcases, extra friend slots, a higher booster-pack drop chance and the cosmetic weight of a big number next to your name.

How does levelling up on SteamLVLUP work?

Steam awards profile XP for every badge you craft, and a badge needs a full set of that game's trading cards. Buying the cards individually on the Steam Community Market is slow and expensive; buying complete sets in bulk is the shortcut this site exists to sell.

The flow is: sign in with Steam, get gems onto your account, buy sets, then withdraw the sets to your Steam inventory and craft the badges there. The site's level calculator does the arithmetic first - you enter a current level and a target, and it shows the number of badges, sets and XP required, along with what you gain at the end (showcases, emoticons and backgrounds, recycling value, friend slots, coupons and drop chance).

Two rules from the help centre shape what you can buy. You can craft 5 normal badges and 1 foil badge from each game on a single account, and the system will only sell you sets you have not already crafted, so it will not double up on games you have partly finished. Cheaper sets are bought first when you buy in bulk.

What are gems, and can you get money back out?

Gems, called Coins in the terms, are the site's internal currency. The Terms and Conditions list exactly three ways to obtain them: exchanging Steam cards, exchanging Counter-Strike keys, and buying them with money.

They only go one way. Section 1.1.7 of the terms states that Coins "are used only within the Website and can not be the subject of any transactions outside the Website", and the help centre adds that transferring gems to another user is forbidden, as are multi-accounts. Section 4.5 then removes the other exit: "Refund for paid (and not consumed) Website services is not provided."

Put together, that is a closed loop. Money and items go in, levels come out, and nothing comes back as cash. That is normal for this kind of service, but it means the amount you top up should be the amount you intend to spend.

What does SteamLVLUP cost?

There is no rate card. Prices for sets are described in the help centre as "determined automatically", and section 4.1 of the terms confirms prices for Coins and card sets are set by the administrator and can change at their discretion.

The site does confirm a commission exists, in an unexpected place. Its affiliate documentation explains that a referrer's cut "is part of our site commission" and that "The fee depends on the specific set of cards and may vary." That is the closest thing to a published fee anywhere on the site: an acknowledgement that a variable commission is baked into the set price.

The interface also warns that "the final payment amount may differ due to the commission of payment systems that you choose", and there is a first-payment bonus, though no percentage is published on the public pages we could read.

What are the account and trading rules?

• You must be 18 or over with full legal capacity, under section 1.1.2 of the terms
• The Steam Mobile Authenticator must have been connected for at least 15 days before you can trade
• A VAC ban or trade ban leaves the site unable to help you withdraw items
• Withdrawals may arrive as several trade offers, but only one withdrawal can be requested at a time
• Items you buy sit in a site inventory with a storage timer; when it expires they return to the store and your gems are refunded
• Cancelling a key order locks you out of creating a new one for 30 minutes

The stock position is worth understanding before you plan a big level jump. The help centre states plainly: "We do not fill up the site with cards, our users do it." Availability for any specific game therefore depends on what other people have deposited, and the calculator will tell you outright when there are not enough sets in stock to reach the level you asked for.

Who operates SteamLVLUP?

The footer and terms name MIXOMI GROUP LP, at Office 29, Clifton House, Fitzwilliam Street Lower, Dublin. Support is handled by email and the on-site help centre.

One payment detail is set out in unusual depth. Section 4.7 explains that where you pay through ZEN Pay, ZEN.COM Limited becomes merchant of record for that purchase and takes primary responsibility for payment and payment-related support, under its own terms and refund policy rather than the site's. If a card payment goes wrong, that is the counterparty you may end up dealing with.

The site also carries the standard disclaimer that it is not affiliated with Valve Corporation, which is worth taking at face value: Steam levels are a Valve system and a third party selling shortcuts into it has no relationship with the people who run it.

Who is it for?

It suits a player who wants a visibly higher Steam level and the profile features that come with it, has a pile of cards, emoticons and backgrounds doing nothing, and would rather convert them than buy sets one at a time on the Community Market. The calculator, the automatic refunds on expired storage and the reserve-then-debit ordering all reduce the chance of paying for something you do not get.

It suits nobody who is trying to extract value. Levels are cosmetic, gems cannot leave the site, refunds do not exist for unconsumed services, and the commission you pay is real but unquantified. Spend what a level is worth to you personally, and nothing beyond it.
