PirateSwap Review

PirateSwap is a CS2 skin trading site built around two actions: swapping items you no longer want for items you do, and selling items outright for a payout. It is not an open marketplace, so there are no listings, no bidding and no waiting for a buyer to appear. You take the offer the site shows you or you leave.

That model has a real cost, and the site is unusually quiet about what it is. Everything else here is well documented; the pricing is not.

Who actually operates PirateSwap?

The Terms of Service name IT MARKET BG, at 24 Morska Sirena St, fl. 10, apt. 58, 9000 Varna, Bulgaria, and carry an effective date of 14 April 2023. The same footer appears on every page of the site.

One detail is worth flagging before you deposit. The company is Bulgarian, but section 11 places the construction, validity and enforcement of the terms under the laws of Cyprus. A Bulgarian trading company with a Cypriot governing-law clause is legal, but it means a dispute is not a straightforward EU consumer complaint in the operator's home jurisdiction.

The terms also set the usual gates: you must be 18 or over, PirateSwap may pause a transaction or withhold funds while it confirms your identity, and it operates stated KYC and AML procedures under sections 5 and 7.

How does swapping and instant selling work?

Both flows run through Steam bots rather than person-to-person trades.

For a swap, you pick items from your own inventory, pick what you want from the site's stock, and pay or receive the difference against your PirateSwap balance. The help centre confirms you can skip the swap part entirely and simply buy an item outright with balance.

For an instant sale, you sell skins and take a payout through one of the site's supported withdrawal methods. This is the only route by which money leaves PirateSwap, which brings us to the part most reviews skip.

Can you get your money back off the site?

Not from your balance. PirateSwap's help centre answers this directly:

No, it's not possible to withdraw your PirateSwap balance. Any funds you add to your balance can be used to buy or trade skins, but they cannot be withdrawn as cash.

That is a one-way door. Money you top up is spendable on skins and nothing else, and the same article states that selling skins is the only way to cash out. If you deposit $50 intending to upgrade a knife and change your mind, the $50 stays on the site until you spend it and sell something back.

The refunds policy is consistent with this. Skin transactions, balance transactions and what the document calls "PirateSwap Commission" are all treated as digital content exempt from the standard withdrawal right, and they are final once you consent. Refunds exist only for undelivered or fraudulent purchases, are paid to the original payment method less the payment processor's fee, and take about 14 days and never more than 45.

What does PirateSwap actually charge?

This is the gap. The homepage advertises "low fees" and "No hidden fees", the refunds policy refers to a commission by name, and no percentage is published anywhere on the public site. Here is everything the operator does put a number on:

Read that table as a warning rather than a summary. On a swap site, the commission is embedded in the exchange rate between your items and theirs, so an unpublished rate is not a small omission. Price a couple of your own skins against a public price index before you accept anything, because the offer screen is the only place the spread is visible.

What do you need on your Steam account first?

The getting-started article lists four requirements, and they are stricter than average:

• Steam Guard Mobile Authenticator active for at least 7 days
• No trade ban on the account
• Inventory set to public
• At least $5 of purchases made on Steam, so an API key can be generated

On top of that, section 4 of the terms states that only skins without a Steam trade lock can be traded. If you have just bought your inventory, or just received it in a trade, it is not eligible until the lock clears.

Are the bonuses worth anything?

They are real, and they are documented, which is more than many competitors manage.

Promo codes add 35% to a top-up: deposit $10 and $13.50 is credited. The trade bonus applies to your first three transactions only, scales with the value of the trade, and requires a qualifying deposit of $5, $7 and $10 respectively. Freebies are prize draws tied to depositing and trading.

All of it is bonus balance, though, and bonus balance inherits the same restriction as every other balance on the site: it can only ever be spent on skins.

Who is PirateSwap for?

It suits a player who wants to churn an inventory quickly, values a two-click swap over a marketplace listing, and treats whatever balance is left as pocket money for the next trade. The help centre is genuinely good, the account requirements are stated up front, and the anti-scam page gives sensible advice about verifying bot names and revoking API keys.

It suits a seller poorly. If your goal is to turn skins into money in your bank account with a cost you can calculate in advance, an unpublished commission and a non-withdrawable balance are both working against you. Sites that publish a flat percentage are easier to hold to account, and on a cash-out that matters more than a 35% deposit bonus does.
